Welcome to Plug-in Solar Guide

Hi, I’m Ryan Yosua, and I started Plug-in Solar Guide primarily to help renters like myself save money on energy bills and participate in clean energy. While plug-in solar (also known as balcony solar) is popular in Europe, I only recently learned that there is a movement to make plug-in solar available in the US. Currently, my understanding is that plug-in solar sits in a legal gray area, except in Utah. There are many manufacturers that sell plug-in solar kits to consumers in the US, but as a consumer, it is confusing to understand whether these kits are legal and safe to use where they live. I am building this site to advocate for plug-in solar legislation in the US and hoping to help people choose the right plug-in solar kit for their situation. It’s just me working on this site outside of my full-time job as a software engineer, so I appreciate your patience as I work on features and do my best to maintain accurate and up-to-date information. While I have the skills to create something like this without AI, I don’t have the time, so please keep in mind that I use AI for the tracker, and some of the info may contain errors. I’m also a flawed human, so some of the errors might be my own. For this blog, I aim to at least write the first draft of posts myself because generative AI writing to me still feels pretty soulless, and my writing is not something I want to fully hand over to the machines just yet (except for spelling, grammar checks, and editting because I will never learn where to put commas). Whether you want to help accelerate the energy transition or you are just fed up with rising electric bills and want to do something about it, I hope this site will be helpful.
