What New Hampshire Passed, and When It Takes Effect
Signed into law July 2, 2026 as Chapter 262. Most provisions take effect January 1, 2027.
SB 540-FN was signed by Governor Kelly Ayotte on July 2, 2026 and became Chapter 262. Most of the law takes effect January 1, 2027. One section is on a separate timeline. The building code section takes effect only when the commissioner of the Department of Energy certifies that a nationally recognized standard exists authorizing plug-in solar systems to be safely connected to a building electrical system. No date is set for that certification.

What to Check Before Buying in New Hampshire
- ℹCheck the dates before you buy. A New Hampshire law can be signed on one date and take effect on another, and protections for renters and HOA members sometimes start later still.
